Chad le Clos narrowly missed becoming the first athlete from South Africa to win gold medal in the 2016 Olympic Games when he picked silver in the men’s 100m butterfly losing to Joseph Schooling from Singapore after he tied with Michael Phelps and Cseh Laszlo on 51.14 seconds.
The 24-year-old suffered same fate in 2012 Olympics men’s 100m butterfly in London when he tied with Russian Yevgeny Korotyshkin.
“I was looking forward to claim the gold as news had gone viral in my country that, I had already won gold, this was my moment of glory” he told reporters. “But in everything I give thanks to God. I thank my family and my country for their best wishes and support they have shown me so far” he concluded.
